CHICO — Stuart Miller, a representative of Weeks Roses in Wasco, will speak about new roses at the next meeting of the Butte Rose Society, planned for 7 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, at the Chico Veterans Memorial Hall, 554 Rio Lindo Ave.
Miller will be speaking about where roses are grown and why, recent and future introductions of new roses, and select favorites. He will also talk about rose terminology, such as bare root, patented vs. non-patented, budded versus own root, and bare root grades.
There will be an update about herbicides, rose rosette disease, and chili thrips insects.
Miller is a California certified nursery professional, and has more than 49 years of retail and wholesale nursery experience. Weeks is one of the largest rose companies in the nation.

In addition, Rose Society members are preparing for the upcoming annual Festival of Roses rose show, set from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Chico Community Center, 545 Vallombrosa Ave. Admission is free.
