Editor’s note: This is the sixth part of a series of articles contributed by the Ridge Quilters Guild.

Kathy Bertrand and her husband Harry never had a thought of moving after losing their beautiful home to the Camp Fire.

Paradise was home and will remain home.

After looking at several homes to buy they immediately knew when they stepped into the cheerful courtyard with a wonderful mosaic tile of the sun in the middle of the brickwork that they had found their new home.

Enter the double leaded glass front door and you will be greeted with a soaring open beam ceiling and a wall of windows looking out to the forest with an expansive deck. The floor plan is open with a cozy raised brick fireplace and tile floors that flow into the large gathering room. That great room also features a fireplace and a bar for guests to gather around. There are skylights that make it cheery even on cloudy days.

The gourmet kitchen features all amenities that today’s home buyers wish for with solid surface counters, stainless steel appliances that includes a stainless steel farm style sink. A bonus feature includes a separate baking center!

The kitchen is interesting with a mixture of traditional and contemporary design. Kathy has added a bit of whimsy with touches of Mickey and Minnie Mouse decor.

The home features three bedrooms and four bathrooms.

There is an abundance of warm natural wood throughout the home. The upstairs guest bathroom reflects Kathy’s love of the beach. The wall hanging quilt in the bathroom is the first quilt she made after the fire.

One bedroom has a loft children would love.

The guest room has an antique quilt that you will not want to miss. The quilt is dated between 1850s and 1875. It is in beautiful condition. The exquisite quilt was donated to the Ridge Quilters Guild after the fire to be drawn and presented to a member who lost their home.

Downstairs is Kathy’s studio.

She has the space that most quilters dream of having. There is also a separate just as spacious storage room and a full bath.

You will notice a state of the art Bernina sewing machine. The fabulous sewing machine was won in a drawing donated to a guild member that lost her home, Kathy was the lucky winner. The quilt guild has received an outpouring of love and donations of quilting supplies from all over the United States and beyond.

There are no words adequate to express our gratitude for their generosity. We are once again able to make beautiful quilts and service our community.

The Ridge quilters’ are looking forward to seeing all of you in Paradise this weekend for our biannual Holiday of Quilts Home tour.
