The 12th annual Student Agriculture Field Day is set for next week.
The event, sponsored by Butte County Cooperative Extension’s CalFresh Healthy Living, UC Nutrition Education Program in collaboration with the Support Group of Butte County UCCE, will take place on Thursday at the Patrick Ranch Museum in Durham.
The goal of the event is to increase agricultural literacy for students in Butte County.
This year, fourth- and fifth-grade students from Paradise Ridge Elementary will be attending. They have been participating in the Shaping Healthy Choices Program, which has strong ties to agriculture and gardening.
This year’s event will include presentations aimed at educating students on local commodities. The presentation topics include walnuts, cover crops, honeybees and orchards. Students will have the opportunity to interact with producers, researchers and gardens on acres of open space, which will create unique learning experiences for them and their adult chaperones.
The field day will take place from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 21, at the Patrick Ranch Museum, 10381 Midway, in Durham.
