Join the “Crochet Jam” from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the Museum of Northern California Art in which participants will work together on a piece of art with a focus on healing, relaxing and fostering positive human connections. This is the current project of San Francisco-based artist Ramekon O’Arwisters; who is known for creating collaborative, community-based projects infused with folk-art traditions that foster a culture of community building. Admission is free.

Crochet Jam is rooted in a childhood memory steeped in the African American traditions of weaving and quilt making. O’Arwister’s grandmother allowed him to add any color or pattern he wanted to her quilts. It didn’t matter whether the fabric matched the color scheme or quilt-making pattern. Togetherness and sharing stories while quilting without rules in a non-judgmental environment was important.

The monca is located at 900 The Esplanade. For questions or further information, call 387-7272 or visit www.monca.org.
