CHICO — Pruning roses will be the program topic at the next Butte Rose Society meeting, at 7 p.m. Nov. 26 at the Chico Veterans Memorial Hall, 554 Rio Lindo Ave.
Mark Carlson of Lamb and Carlson Landscaping in Chico will be talking about ways to prune unusual roses, along with the more common varieties.
Carlson grew up on the family farm in Durham, and graduated from Chico State University with a bachelor’s degree in ornamental horticulture.
He worked at The Cupertino Nursery and Florist from 1970 to 1973. In 1972, he was awarded the California certified nurseryman designation. He joined Lamb and Rice Landscaping in Chico, and then got his contractor’s license in 1979. He joined his former firm, creating Lamb and Carlson for landscape maintenance until 2008. A DVD he created on roses and fruit trees is available at secondleaves.com.
He now manages his family’s almond orchards.
Guests to the rose meeting are free. An annual membership to the society is $25. The society’s website is www.butte-rosesociety.org.
