Editor’s note: This is the fourth of a series of articles contributed by the Ridge Quilters Guild.
George and Kim Morris’s home sets on a knoll with a view of the hills and majestic oaks. This home and the home across the street which is also on our tour survived the Camp Fire. When you enter the foyer be sure and look up at the collection of doll chairs and across the living room valance for the rest of the adorable collection.
Enter the Morris home and you are sure to be filled with the spirit of Christmas, with the old fashion traditional tree, a snow village collection, adorable Santa collection and a collection of handmade Christmas trees. The amazing Christmas quilt was made by Kim as well as many beautiful quilts you will see throughout the home.
The living spacious living features a cozy wood burning stove with a raised brick surround. George is a talented wood-craftsman. He has built many pieces of furniture in the living room. Kim loves to cook and the spacious kitchen features a baking island and a pass through window.
Looking out to the backyard is a beautiful terraced rock retaining wall, a patio for family barbecues and a playhouse for grandchildren.
George lost his work shop to the fire; the Morris’s were out of their home for a long length of time as many Paradise residents were. They have came back home with a positive spirit and hope for the future of Paradise, the town they love.
Kim is a fabulous quilter, her expertise ranges from traditional quilts to new modern style quilts. Her studio is a quilter’s dream. Every inch is perfectly designed for what ever she needs. George has built much of the cabinetry to Kim’s specifications. You will see state of the art sewing machines for both assembling and quilting. Two cheerful windows flood the room with natural light.
The formal dinning room has book shelves with a cozy window seat in the middle that invites you to curl up with a good book on a rainy day.
Their guest room is filled with many family treasures, including a sewing chest that belonged to Kim’s grandmother. Off of the luxurious master suite is an exercise room. At the foot of the bed is a chest made for Kim by her father when she was married.
Art and creativity must run in their Morris family. You will see beautiful wood turning and landscape photography throughout the home by George. Kim’s father carved the bookends in George’s office. Paintings throughout the home are by Kim’s father.
You will want to take your time viewing this delightful home filled with interesting treasures. We hope you will join us from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec 7 and 8 to see the Morris’ home as well as four others and a trailer affectionately called Putt-Putt. The weekend will put you in the spirit and hopefully leave you with the spirit of the Ridge Quilters Guild as we continue to stand strong together.
